Disaster Preparedness Newspapers
by Ben Hutchins

The City of Sparks Project Impact campaign has developed two 24 page 11" x 17" youth disaster preparedness newspapers that will be distributed to between 65,000 and 70,000 youth. 60,000 newspapers will be provided to the Washoe County School District for distribution to every child in the District.

The other 5,000 - 10,000 will be provided to a number of private and charter schools in the Washoe and Sierra County regions. There are two versions of the newspaper; one for K - 6th graders and another for 7th - 12th graders.

The newspapers were developed by Visual Imagry, Inc., in cooperation with numerous Project Impact partners, and will include a variety of disaster preparedness topics, in terms appropriate to each age group. Final printing and distribution of the newspapers should occur by the end of February.

If you have a child that attends the Washoe County School District, please review the information contained in the newspaper with your child. If you don't see a copy come home with your child, or if you'd simply like a copy, contact Ben Hutchins at the City of Sparks extension 3619 or call (775) 353-1619.
